Dentures

Dentures are not necessarily a sign of poor hygiene.

Though proper teeth brushing and frequent visits to the dentist can keep teeth healthy, tooth loss may not be avoidable. People may need dentures due to an injury, cancer, heavy wear on the teeth, or simply because their DNA caused their teeth to fall out.

Types of dentures

Full dentures

Full dentures are the type of denture that comes to mind most readily. These dentures are for those who have lost all of their teeth or had them surgically removed. These are prosthetic teeth attached to acrylic gums and bases.

The upper denture covers the roof of your mouth while the lower denture is a horseshoe shape to allow room for your tongue. Our dentists at dental arts studio will take proper measurements to ensure a comfortable, snug fit.

Partial dentures

For those missing only a few teeth and do not have a medical problem such as gum disease, a partial denture is the best option. A partial denture, sometimes known as a bridge, contains prosthetic teeth and acrylic gums that are bound to your existing teeth.

Insertion of partial dentures can be done in several ways. Some attachments are made with metal clasps while others may be attached to crowns on natural teeth.

Dental implants

A newer version of dentures is that of dental implant or overdenture. These are similar to full dentures but are held in place with implants placed in the jaw bone. The dentist surgically adjusts the fit of these dentures allowing for a secure, stable fit. Aside from overall fit, overdentures are also best at preventing bone loss.
